Teens Retreat 2009 - Last day: Devo n Going Home

I began to write. I felt Joes eyes burning a hole in the back of my head.
I whipped myself around.

Zac: Why?
-Theres a distraction and we cant pay attention from over here.

Maybe because the good old fashioned video stores are not there, they went out of business? Something in society has changed.
People in there teens and 20s till stopping, used to get together-anywhere-just to get high. What great friends! They are not your friends, they are drug buddies. After the drugs are gone, growing up, or something else happens they are not there anymore.
Cool to get together at your house with understanding parents. To get together with friends somewhere else-sometimes to watch movies-or out in public to do drugs. Another group takes over, even if they step up police. But guess what; all those other nights, the cops were not there.
Funny how in the old days there were classic VHS videostores, midnight movies, and everybody had a common vision. Nobody wants to go to midnight movies. Watching videos alone in your home on the weekend shows you have no life? Marijuana is a social drug. But drugs are optional.
People watch the movie while high. People watch the tv while high, people just get high-sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. They can do other things, like crank calls, look at trippy youtube videos and leave comments, or other things to put there money towards.
Lights on or dimly lit room to live out fantasies; they get high with a bunch of friends late at night. Then before it gets too late (they may have been playing a tape or any recording) they call you on the phone. Resnable hour. This is not a crank call. There are different things to do; old school, in different combinations but nobody cares.
There are some people that are in there mid 30s but friends still act like they are 16 by crank calling you at 3 am. This one guy has a child that is being taken care of by the mother and step dad in another state. There are other things to spend your hard earned money on besides drugs. You and your friends can get into the car and go for a ride, crusing.
All in a room getting high in somebodys apartment.
Living on your own in your late teens early 20s in a perfect situation (rent was cheaper back then compared to now) and you have your friend, who is a roommate & you got a 2 bedroom apartment. Make plenty of money, your mind should be full of ideas, without drugs.
That has got to take an effect on your self, psyche, and mind. Receiving strange mail, having your own, but you dont take advantage of it. Your friend and roommate.
Here is something: why dont you do something kooky? The apartment is upstairs. You have a stairs, balcony, ledge, and windows. Depends on how it is created. How about if you are up do things on the patio that your imagination takes you. Others did it.
Maybe you can spend your money on something else besides drugs and beer. Like going to a midnight movie? How about a video rental ? watch tv? Go to the local colleges and see if they have any quirky film festivals? Look in the newspapers for free outdoor showing of movies. Have a bunch of friends come over to have fun without the drugs, because they are optional.
Funny thing about the drugs: nobody thinks or are ashamed. Because you only have 2 bedrooms, a couch, and whatelse??? People you have never seen before (your friend, not your roommate) come over , get high, stay up all hours of the night. By almost 12 pm the next morning, you hear a knock on the door. Or the doorbell rings. A misguided friend has come for some reason, and you can see that you were on the floor with a thin blanket over you. Other people are sleeping on the couch, elsewhere, but they are too sleepy to notice. Boy is the guy surprised.
But after they move out without telling you, they contact you and tell lies. They leave some damage behind. Stuff left behind. Who is gonna clean up the broken doorknob? Well here is one, some others rented the same apartmentthen disappeared!!!
So here is an idea: why dont you and your friends get on here, make up a different youtube account, watch all these videos, and leave as many comments as you want to? Have fun; drugs are optional. But think about all the things you would do if you were in the same situation? Your imaginations the limit! Drugs are optional.

Eugene Ysaye (1858-1931)
Eugène Ysaÿe (16th July 1858 - 12th May 1931) playing Piece pittoresque by Chabrier, was a Belgian violinist, composer and conductor. His brother was pianist and composer Théo Ysaÿe (1865-1918). He was regarded as "The King of the Violin", or, as Nathan Milstein mentioned, "tzar". Ysaÿe was the possessor of a large and flexible tone, influenced by a considerable variety of vibrato - from no vibrato at all to very intense. He said, "Don't always vibrate, but always be vibrating". His modus operandi was, in his own words: "Nothing which wouldn't have for goal emotion, poesy, heart.". Possibly the most distinctive feature of Ysaÿe's interpretations was his masterful rubato. Ysaÿe's rubato is something apart; "Whenever he stole time from one note, he faithfully paid it back within four bars," said the conductor Sir Henry Wood, allowing his accompanist to maintain strict tempo under his free cantilena. This kind of rubato fits the description of Frédéric Chopin's rubato. Although Ysaÿe was a great interpreter of late Romantics and early modern composers - Max Bruch, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Cesar Franck, who said he was their greatest interpreter, he was admired for his Bach and Beethoven interpretations. His technique was brilliant and finely honed, and in this respect he is the first modern violinist, whose technique was without the shortcomings of some earlier artists. Ysaÿe was married twice: he was first wed to Louise Ysaÿe, and after her death in 1924 he became married to a pupil of his, Jeanette Dincin, 44 years his Junior. She was a violinist who in her teens had studied with prominent teachers such as Franz Kneisel, Leopold Auer, and Otakar Ševčík. Ysaÿe met her in 1922 while conductor of the Cincinnati Orchestra. She cared for him in his ailing years. Eugene's only request of her after he died was that she carry on her performances under his name. Olive learns she has qualified by default for the "Little Miss Sunshine" beauty contest that is being held in Redondo Beach, California in two days. Her parents and Edwin, who has been coaching her, want to support her, and Frank and Dwayne cannot be left alone, so the whole family goes. Because they have little money, they go on an 800-mile (1,287-km) road trip in their yellow Volkswagen T2 Microbus.
Family tensions play out on the highway and at stops along the way, amidst the aging van's mechanical problems. When the van's clutch breaks early on, they learn that they must push it until it is moving at about 15 mph (24 km/h) before putting it into second gear, at which point they have to run up to the side door and jump in. Throughout the road trip, the family suffers numerous personal setbacks, revealing their need for each other's support. Richard loses an important contract that would have jump-started his motivational business. Frank encounters the ex-boyfriend who, in leaving him for an academic rival, had led to his suicide attempt. Edwin dies from an apparent heroin overdose; to avoid being delayed by post-mortem arrangements, they smuggle his body out of the hospital. A policeman stops the car due to a damaged and continuously honking horn, and nearly discovers Edwin's body in the back of the van. Dwayne discovers that he is color blind, and Frank tells him that he can never become a jet pilot with color blindness, which prompts Dwayne to break his silence and throw a tantrum. Throughout the ordeal, Sheryl attempts to keep everyone, including herself, calm and sane.
The climax takes place at the beauty pageant. After a frantic race against the clock, Olive is almost refused entrance for arriving at the hotel four minutes late. As she gets ready, the family observes her competition: slim, sexualized pre-teen girls with highly styled hair, wearing lipstick, adult-like swimsuits, and glamorous evening wear to perform highly elaborate dance routines with great panache. She joyfully performs the dance routine that her Grandpa Edwin had secretly choreographed for her: a burlesque performance to Rick James' song "Super Freak", innocently oblivious to the scandalized and horrified reaction of the audience and pageant judges. The pageant organizers are enraged and demand Sheryl and Richard remove Olive from the stage. Instead of removing her, one by one the members of the family join Olive on stage, dancing alongside her to show their support.

Sheryl, however, insists that they "let Olive be Olive", and Olive goes on stage. She joyfully performs the dance routine that her Grandpa Edwin had secretly choreographed for her: a burlesque performance to Rick James' song "Super Freak", innocently oblivious to the scandalized and horrified reaction of the audience and pageant judges. The pageant organizers are enraged and demand Sheryl and Richard remove Olive from the stage. Instead of removing her, one by one the members of the family join Olive on stage, dancing alongside her to show their support.
The family is next seen outside the hotel's security office where a police officer gives them their freedom in return for a promise never to enter a beauty pageant in the state of California again. Piling into the van with the horn still honking, they happily smash through the barrier of the hotel's toll booth and head back to their home in Albuquerque.
